Hispania: Castilian or Spanish?
Hello! I would like to propose a very controversial topic in the Iberian peninsula. What is the best way to refer to the language of Castile? Spanish or Castilian? Well, in English if you say Castilian, you will probably be corrected and told to use Spanish. However, the word castellano is the best form in the peninsula. Strictly speaking, the correct word is Castilian, as Spanish means "a citizen of Hispania", which also includes Portugal. Furthermore, The word "Spanish" seems imperialistic or colonialistic to me. In addition, languages such as Catalan are in danger. For example, in Alacant and Valencia, where the Catalan language was spoken a few decades ago, but not now. Now they speak Castilian. What do you think?
